Loton Park Weekend

Neville Rollason had a good weekend at Loton Park Hillclimb, having only collected his & Craig Bates car from the OMS workshop on Thursday afternoon following an engine & gearbox rebuild.

At the previous Midland Hillclimb Championship meeting at Loton Park in April, the gearbox failed & comprehensively damaged the engine. Despite this setback and little time in the car this season, Neville  posted competitive times all weekend. Finishing 5th overall in class and setting times that qualified him for both Top Ten run offs, he secured 8th and 7th places.

Tony Adams rounded off the top six in the up to 1600cc class in his ex nev Rollason OMS 2000M.

Craig Bates improved all weekend to finish 7th in a strong class of 15 cars with his fastest time at the venue in the new OMS.

It was good to see Chris Houston competing at Loton having made the trip from Ireland with the ex Tim Wilson OMS CF04, he is driving at Snetterton in a sprint next weekend.

Tina Hawkes improved all weekend in the ex Steve & Lynn Owen Hornet. Following some adjustments to the car by Steve prior to the timed runs, Tina found a further four seconds from her practice times.

Steve Owen had an eventful meeting, finishing 3rd in class & qualifying for both run offs. In run off one he caught the grass on the approach to Fallow bend resulting in him not making the corner & damaging the front wing  and a wishbone. The car was repaired for the second class runs but he did not compete in the final run off of the day.

Trevor Willis was the man to beat all weekend, winning his class, qualifying for both run offs & taking fastest time of day. He won the first run off, but fell foul of rain in the second, being the last man on the hill as a heavy rain shower drenched the first half of the course. Following a grassy excursion around Loggerheads he chose to return to the paddock as a win was not possible in the conditions. At the prize presentation he was awarded Midland Hillclimb Man of the Meeting.
