Heroes

Some hardy souls have already ventured to UK hills & sprint venues despite the unseasonal weather conditions so far in 2013. These weekend warriors have been to test days at Gurston Down and Harewood and meetings at Loton Park, Harewood & Gurston Down: those entered at the Loton Park test weekend were disappointed as the meeting was cancelled due to snow still covering the deer park.

Steve Broughton debuted the long awaited Duratec powered OMS 25 at the MSA SBD British Sprint Championship round at Castle Coombe in March. Having driven through snow on the journey to the venue, the conditions were not the best to settle into a new car. Steve found the car very sure footed in the changeable and cold conditions, securing a class win & qualifying for the Top 12 run off. He hopes for better conditions for his next meeting at Lydden in April.

New OMS owners for 2013 are Mark & Ann Goodyear with the ex-Tina Hawkes/ Lynn & Steve Owen Hornet. Mark had a good weekend at Loton Park testing the car following a winter rebuild and new paint scheme. Also at Loton was the OMS CF 1100 of the Summers family driven by Alex, finishing an impressive 2nd FTD to Will Hall in the unlimited single seater class.

This weekend saw two meetings running at Gurston Down. On Saturday the SBD HSA Speed Championship and SBD BARC Speed Championship visited the venue. In the 1100cc single seater class Kemp brothers Euan & Callum who share an OMS PR, finished 2nd and 3rd in class. Winning the class was Steve Boother in his OMS 2000m. James Blackmore took 2nd in the 1600cc class driving his OMS 25.

Sunday was the first round of the Gurston Down Gates of Brockenhurst Hillclimb Championship and BARC (SW) Top Ten Challenge. James Blackmore took 2nd place in the 1600cc single seater class with the OMS 25 and 2nd Fastest Time of Day. Calum Kemp won the 1100cc single seater class from James Moore in the newly acquired OMS 2000M; this car was a regular at Harewood Hillclimb in the hands of Graham Smith. 3rd in class went to Roger Biggs in the ex-Paul Marvin Hornet, with Stephen Loadsman rounding out the top class places in 4th with his OMS SF.

Next weekend sees the start of the 2013 MSA Avon Tyres TCC Group British and Leaders Hillclimb Championships and the Midland Hillclimb Championship at Prescott Hillclimb in Gloucestershire. Here's hoping temperatures will improve by then; best take your thermals just in case!
