Charity Sponsored Walk

Last month Lynn Owen took part in the Rotary Club of Harrogate 20th Nidderdale Charity Walk on Sunday 19th May 2103. Lynn works for a social enterprise called Paperworks, an organisation that delivers work experience and skills training for adults with disabilities, helping them move towards work.

A team of 21 walkers represented Paperworks including staff, volunteers and some of the trainees whom the money raised will benefit, completed the eight mile walk that started from the Pateley Bridge Scout HQ on the banks of the river Nidd. The half-way point took in the monumental sculpture at Coldstones Cut the highest point on the walk, before returning down the valley to the start at the Scout HQ.

Each walker carried a letter on their rucksack spelling out ‘Paperworks in Nidderdale’ to raise awareness of the work they are doing in Nidderdale, offering training services within the local area to make work skills training more accessible to people living in the outlying rural communities of Harrogate District.

There was much amusement along the route with other walkers speculating what would be spelt when the letters were re-arranged. One wag spelt ‘dawdler’ though it must be said that there were no dawdlers in the Paperworks team.

Many thanks to all the Hillclimbers and friends who were so very generous and helped Lynn to raise £305 in sponsorship money. The total raised so far by all the Paperworks walkers is £1101.15 with some money still to be added to this total.
