Bouley Bay

The Liberation Day Hillclimb took place on Saturday 9th May at Bouley Bay in Jersey.

Guernsey man and OMS driver Justin Smith was at the top of his game on Saturday setting not only a new personal best time at the venue, but also re-setting the 1600cc racing car class record; the first ever sub 41 second climb for this capacity split. His climb of 40.56 also set fastest time of day in the OMS 25 he shares with his father Charlie Smith.

At the start of the meeting the record was held by Nick Saunders with his time set in May 2011 at 41.38 seconds. Despite Nick running inside his own record on his first timed run with 41.18 he could not match Justin who lowered the bar even further with a 40.56 second climb. In the afternoon Nick failed to improve on his morning time whilst Justin ran a 41.37 completing two runs inside the record at the start of the meeting. Fellow OMS class competitor Sarah Gaudion's best run was a 43.09 with Justin's co-driver Charlie Smith on 43.87 seconds.

Geoff Guille was the only runner in the 2 litre racing car class, 41.33 was his fastest time.

Class record holder in the 1100cc racing car class Ricky Le Cheminent had a failed first timed run and retired the OMS PR from the meeting. OMS 2000M pairing Richard Twinham and Colin Le Galle finished second and third in class on 42.95 and 43.29 respectively.
