MAC Awards Night

With a new venue and new format, Midland Automobile Club hosted their annual awards presentation at St Andrew's Town Hotel in Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire on Saturday 7th November.

Motorsport journalist and MC for the evening Simon Taylor had the honour of presenting the awards with special guest Norman Dewis. The legendary Jaguar test and development driver recounted his career in conversation with Simon following the award presentation and dinner.

The first award recipient of the evening was Steve Owen. He was presented with the Murray Austin Challenge Trophy for his fastest climb with the 1600cc OMS 28 at the May meeting 27.10 seconds. He also received the H. Gerald Harper Challenge Trophy and the Frank Hepworth Memorial Trophy for his fastest run at the August meeting and his quickest all season 25.56 seconds.

Harry Pick received The Michael Ward Trophy twice: the award is for the best time set at a meeting by a driver under 24 years. In June Harry's fastest run in the 600cc OMS Hornet was 29.76s and in August his best time was 30.13 seconds.

Neville Rollason was presented with The Gerry Flewitt Trophy for the fastest time recorded by a car under 2000cc at the May meeting: 27.33s in the first top ten run off in his supercharged 1300cc OMS 28.

Derek Sweeney was awarded the MAC Rosebowl for setting fastest time of day at MIRA in his 1000cc OMS 2000m.
